Manhattan Girls
We’ve already written about this, so we’ll try to keep it brief. Before the Pandemic, only one Manhattan girls program had ever won a City Championship: HS for Health Professions in 2009. Since the Pandemic, three different Manhattan girls programs have won a City Championship. Each year this decade, the individual city champion has been from a Manhattan school. More than half of the top ten finishers at the City Championship have been from Manhattan. Only six girls in PSAL

Staten Island Girls
From 1980 to 2013, schools from Staten Island won 26 of the 34 City Championships. Four of the eight Staten Island schools won championships, with Tottenville leading the way with 18. Curtis and MSIT have also won multiple titles and even Port Richmond won one. However, no Staten Island school has won a title since 2013. This decade only one school, Susan Wagner in 2025, has finished in the top four at Cities to qualify for the Federation Meet. Five of the eight schools have

Brooklyn Girls
The girls scene in Brooklyn is very similar to the boys scene: Brooklyn Tech is dominant. The Tech girls have won two City Championships this decade, and five since 2015. Three other Brooklyn schools also have top-ten finishes this decade. The last Brooklyn school besides Tech to win a city championship was Boys and Girls in 2004. There are 25 programs in Brooklyn, but 11 of them have not competed in a Borough Championship yet this decade. Borough Champions 2021 - Brooklyn Te

Queens Girls
The Queens girls have certainly been more competitive than their male counterparts this century, winning 4 City Championships thus far. From 2014 to 2018, Benjamin Cardozo won three titles, but the days of club kids using phony Queens addresses to attend Cardozo seem to be over. This decade, the Townsend Harris girls have been the dominant program in Queens, even qualifying for the Federation meet in 2022. The only other Queens girls program to finish in the Top 10 at City Ch

In 2023, only six schools competed. Bronx Science have 4 championships in the last 15 years, but the last Bronx school besides the Wolverines to win a City Championship was DeWitt Clinton in 1990. This decade only three Bronx schools have qualified for the City Championship. Borough Champions 2021 - Bronx HS

Manhattan Boys
Next up are the Manhattan boys. This decade seven different Manhattan programs have recorded a top ten finish at the City Championship and a total of nine different schools have qualified. However, the last Manhattan boys program to win it all was Stuyvesant in 2016. Other than Stuyvesant, the last Manhattan program to win it all was Brandeis HS in 1965. Historically, Manhattan hasn’t been the best borough, but the 2020s have been a different story. Participation has also bee

Staten Island Boys
Next up are the Staten Island boys. There are 8 teams on the island and 6 of them have won a City Championship in their storied histories. This century, MSIT, Curtis and Susan Wagner have raised a banner. From the late 1960s to the 2010s, Staten Island was the dominant borough in PSAL Boys Cross Country. There’s a proud cross country tradition on the Island that doesn’t necessarily exist in the other four boroughs. The Public and Private schools on Staten Island hold their ow
