This past week, the spotlight shone on the underclassmen, as each borough held its Borough Freshman and Sophomore Championships.

In the Sophomore race, Metropolitan Campus went 1, 2, 3, 8, but did not have a fifth finisher. Simon Bird won the race in 12:39. Francis Lewis took home the team title.

On the girls side, Kunusasha Medas King (Midas Touch) made her season debut, winning the race for Benjamin Cardozo in 10:40. Townsend Harris captured the team title. In the Sophomore race, Devora Tonkonog of Francis Lewis won the race in 16:33. Bayside captured the team title.

Brooklyn - Prospect Park

Brooklyn Tech won the Freshman Boys championship, led by Miles Albano, who won in 9:30. The Sophomore results are not posted, but we’ll assume Brooklyn Tech also won that.

On the girls side, Brooklyn Tech squeaked by Edward R. Murrow for the win, led by Sophie Walther in 9:59. The Sophomore results are not posted, but we’ll assume Brooklyn Tech also won that.

Manhattan - Van Cortlandt Park

The Stuyvesant boys took home the Freshman and Sophomore Championships. The Freshman race was won by Ethan Riordan of HS for Environmental Studies in 8:53. The Sophomore race was won by Ruben Carmi of LaGuardia in 14:59.

This weekend’s schedule:

SIHST&FA Varsity/JV Island Championships - Clove Lakes State Park

CSIHS/McCown, Curtis, MSIT, New Dorp, Port Richmond, Susan Wagner, Tottenville

The Island teams typically treat this meet seriously, so we’re likely to get a fantastic race between MSIT, Mongisnor Farrell and the top Susan Wagner boys.  On the girls side, Maeve Heck will battle the Susan Wagner girls and the girls from Notre Dame.

NYC XC Carnival - Van Cortlandt Park

Francis Lewis, Midwood, Lab Museum

Find us a meet where Lab Museum isn’t entered! The Lab boys are entered in the Varsity race and the Freshman Relay. Lab girls also entered in the relay. The Midwood boys are entered in the Varsity race, as are the girls from Francis Lewis.

Section One Coaches Invitational - Bowdoin Park

Boys Varsity I race - Bronx Science (two weeks in a row!) will battle teams like Chaminade, North Rockland and Ward Melville. Horace Greeley also entered, meaning it’s possible reigning Eastern States Champ Ryan Sykes is also racing.

Boys Varsity II race - John Jay Campus and HS of American Studies will battle top programs Saint Anthony’s and Arlington.

Boys Varsity III race - A Borough Championship battle one week early? Stuyvesant battles HSMSE in this race.

Girls Varsity I race - Bronx Science will race against programs like Shenendehowa, North Rockland and Monroe Woodbury

Girls Varsity II race - John Jay Campus going up against top programs Ward Melville, Saint Anthony’s and Arlington.
