The following Boys teams qualified for the City Championship: (22 teams)

HS for Construction

Francis Lewis

Metropolitan Campus

Brooklyn Tech

John Jay Campus

Midwood

Bronx Science

HS of American Studies

Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy

HS for Math, Science and Engineering

Stuyvesant

Hunter College Campus

Lab Museum

Bard

LaGuardia

West End Secondary

The Clinton School

MSIT

Susan Wagner

Curtis

CSIHS/McCown

Tottenville

Quick Notes:

-       Bronx Science is still the favorite, but MSIT is hot on their heels.

-       HSMSE seems like a solid choice for 3rd.

-       The race for the last Federation qualifier will be a tight one between a number of teams, but the leading candidates are Brooklyn Tech, Susan Wagner, Stuyvesant, Hunter College Campus and John Jay Campus

-       Four boys have run between 16:35 and 16:38 this season.

-       Borough Breakdown: Manhattan (8 teams), Queens (3 teams), Brooklyn (3 teams), Bronx (3 teams), Staten Island (5 teams)

The following Girls teams qualified for the City Championship: (22 teams)

Townsend Harris

Bayside

Bronx Science

DeWitt Clinton

HS of American Studies

Brooklyn Tech

John Jay Campus

Midwood

Edward R. Murrow

LaGuardia

Beacon

HS for Math, Science and Engineering

Hunter College Campus

Manhattan Center for Science and Math

Stuyvesant

Bard

Columbia Secondary

The Clinton School

West End Secondary

Susan Wagner

Curtis

Tottenville

Quick Notes:

-       In the merge, Brooklyn Tech and LaGuardia are very close. Susan Wagner will also battle for the title.

-       The remaining Federation spot is most likely up for grabs between Beacon, Stuyvesant, John Jay Campus, HSMSE, Hunter College Campus and Bronx Science.

-       Tottenville was the last at-large team to qualify for the field, meaning all five girls who broke 20 minutes today will compete in the Championship race.

-       There are SEVEN Fast Freshmen™ this year, and another 5 that broke 23 minutes on Saturday. Can any of them get under 22 in two weeks?

-       Borough Breakdown: Manhattan (10 teams), Brooklyn (4 teams), Bronx (3 teams), Queens (2 teams), Staten Island (3 teams)

BHXC PSAL Rankings – After Week Seven

Girls

1. LaGuardia - A new-to-XC phenom, a Fast Freshman™ and some returning girls starting to hit their stride.

2. Brooklyn Tech - Two Fast Freshman™ and some much improved runners have them hot on LaGuardia’s heels.

3. Susan Wagner - Fast up front, including a Fast Freshman™, but will need more from their 4-5 who have run faster in their careers than we’ve seen this year.

4. John Jay Campus - We finally got to see how fast their Fast Freshman™ is. Spoiler: very fast. Not a deep squad by any stretch, will need 3-5 to bring their “A” game in two weeks.

5. Bronx Science - Missing their new-to-XC talent this past weekend, but their top two ran very well and their back end is starting to come around.

6. Stuyvesant - Not entirely sure what happened this weekend at Boroughs (They finished 6th in Manhattan), but they seemed to be missing more than a few of their top runners.

7. Beacon - Great pack runners, 2-5 finished within 10 seconds of each other.

8. HS for Math, Science and Engineering - Three under 22 and another under 23, just need number 5 to come around.

9. Hunter College Campus - Two of their top seven ran in the JV race. A big gap between 1 and 2 and 2 freshmen in their top four.

10. Manhattan Center for Science and Math - Tenth in the merge from this weekend. Top four girls finished with a spread of about a minute. Fifth runner nearly two minutes after their fourth.

11. Townsend Harris - Will they run faster when placed in a faster race than their Queens race?

12. Bard - Held their own in a fast Manhattan race.

13. Midwood - Solid 1-3, need more from 4-5.

14. Columbia Secondary School - see Midwood

15. The Clinton School - Fast enough to get Murphy into the Championship race.

16. Edward R. Murrow - 4th in Brooklyn and qualified for the Championship for maybe the first time in program history.

17. West End Secondary - 10th in Manhattan, but still qualified for the Championship.

18. DeWitt Clinton - One year away from jumping up this list.

19. Queens High School Complex - Entered the day as one of our sleepers to qualify, but they aren’t deep and one of their top girls had a really off day. Sadly, relegated to the Individual Race.

20. Curtis - Will finish toward the bottom in two weeks, but new-to-XC Zoe Arellano has had a great first season.

21. HS of American Studies - Their top two ran fast enough to get their team average underneath the cutoff set by Bayside.

22. MSIT - Beat Tottenville head-to-head, but not fast enough to get into the Championship race.

23. Tottenville - Finished 4th of the five teams that showed up for the Staten Island race, but thanks to Maeve Heck, their average was faster than Bayside’s 24:50.

24. Bayside - Finished 2nd in Queens to qualify automatically, but their 24:50 average was the slowest of all the auto-qualifiers.

25. Francis Lewis - 4th in Queens, but not enough teams showed up on the line to get them into the top 25% of that borough.

Boys

1. Bronx Science - Easy Bronx win without many of their top guys.

2. MSIT - Easy Staten Island win without giving a full effort.

3. High School for Math, Science and Engineering - First ever Borough Championship and a real chance to qualify for Feds for the first time in program history.

4. Brooklyn Tech - Won Brooklyn Borough Championship again, without their top runner.

5. John Jay Campus - A chance to finally knock off Tech slipped through their fingers as they were missing a few pieces this weekend.

6. Stuyvesant - A very good 2nd place in Manhattan, they were actually 4th in the merge thanks to a 1-5 split of less than 50 seconds.

7. Hunter College Campus - 7th in the merge, missing one of their top three runners for a few weeks now.

8. Susan Wagner - A rest week for Acevedo, they now have five boys under 19 minutes

9. Lab Museum United - 9th in the merge, top runner Arrojo will challenge for the top ten at Cities.

10. HS of American Studies - 10th in the merge, all five guys under 20 minutes now, top runner will challenge to qualify for Feds.

11. Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy - 11th in the merge, any improvement by their number 5 could vault them into the top ten.

12. Metropolitan Campus - This is the highest a Queens team has appeared on this list all year.

13. Curtis - Great effort by top runner Penaranda, but he won’t have much help in two weeks.

14. Bard - Not a single senior on this team, so they’re looking toward the future.

15. Midwood - Might have the league champion, but there’s not a lot after him.

16. CSIHS/McCown - Beat two Staten Island teams they didn’t beat last weekend.

17. Francis Lewis - 17th in the merge. 1-5 spread of just over a minute.

18. LaGuardia - Top runner Weller’s effort keeps their average low enough to get into the Championship.

19. Tottenville - 19th in the merge.

20. West End Secondary - 20th in the merge and were one of the last at-large teams into the Championship field.

21. The Clinton School - 21st in the merge, but their team average was just faster than HS for Construction, who was the last auto-qualifier

22. Manhattan Center for Science and Math - Beat HS for Construction in the merge, but their 3-5 were not fast enough to keep their average down.

23. HS for Construction - Last of the auto-qualifiers.

24. Townsend Harris - 24th in merge

25. Port Richmond - 25th in merge
