Next up are the Bronx boys. The PSAL website lists 17 boys programs in the Bronx, but the Bronx Borough Championship hasn’t had more than 9 teams compete all decade long. In 2023, only six schools competed. Bronx Science have 4 championships in the last 15 years, but the last Bronx school besides the Wolverines to win a City Championship was DeWitt Clinton in 1990. This decade only three Bronx schools have qualified for the City Championship.

4. Christopher Thom - Bronx Science (2025)
6. Benjamin Berman - Bronx Science (2023)
6. Liam Hernandez - Bronx Science (2024)
9. Jack McCurry - HS of American Studies (2024)
The PSAL website lists 17 boys programs (but there are actually 18). We’ll rank their performance since the Pandemic in reverse order.
14. (TIED)
Bronx United
DeWitt Clinton High School
Evander Childs
Mott Haven Educational Campus
Theatre Arts Production Company School
None of these programs have competed in the Bronx Borough Championships in the 2020s.
13. Jonas Bronck Academy
They made their PSAL debut in 2025, finishing last at the Bronx Borough Championship. Their top runner was Josett Rodriguez, who ran 24:54.
12. South Bronx Prep
They’ve made only one appearance at the Borough Championships this decade and it was way back in 2021, when they finished 8th. Their top time of the 2020s was 24:08 by Adrian Geraldo in 2021.
11. South Bronx Educational Campus
Not to be confused with the other school with basically the same name, South Bronx Campus ran in the first two Borough championships of the decade, finishing 7th both times. Their fastest time this decade was run by Alonzo Monsanto in 2022 when he ran 22:03. However, this program does have records dating back to 2012, so perhaps we’ll see a revival in the coming years.
10. Taft Educational Campus
The boys from Taft have only made one appearance this decade at the Bronx Borough championship, finishing 5th in 2024. Their top runner that year was Kevin Montero, who ran 21:39.
9. Hostos Lincoln / University Prep Campus
HLA has competed twice at the Bronx Borough Championship, finishing 4th in 2023 (only 6 teams competed). They were 8th in 2024. Their fastest time this decade has been run by Sharell Martinez, who ran 21:13 in 2024. At the end of the last decade, they had a few boys under 20 minutes, so it’s not impossible for them to find some talent in the building.
8. Roosevelt Educational Campus
Roosevelt has competed in 4 of the 5 Bronx Borough championships this decade, with a top finish of 5th in 2021. Carlos Sanchez ran 20:49 in 2021 to set their program standard for this decade.
7. Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice
Bronx School for LGJ has appeared at 4 of the 5 Bronx Borough Championships with a top finish of 6th in 2024. Over those 4 appearances, they’ve beaten a total of 4 teams, 3 in 2024 alone. Their top time this decade is 21:21 by Justin Ortega in 2025.
6. Bathgate Educational Complex
Bathgate has competed in all five Borough Championships and has finished 5th twice, in 2022 and 2023. With the exception of a last place finish in 2024, they typically run around the middle of the pack in the Bronx. Malachi Mcghie ran 19:32 at the 2024 City Championship to set their top time of the decade.
5. JFK Campus High School
This is a program long removed from winning multiple City Championships in the 70s and 80s. However, they did get a club kid this year who they could build around. They’ve finished in the top five of the Bronx the last two seasons. Robison Mata broke 20 minutes this season and they had a freshman narrowly miss breaking 20, so they’ve got two boys to build around for next season.
4. Harry S. Truman High School
Truman has finished in the top 3 in the Bronx the past three seasons, but have yet to qualify for the City Championship this decade. This probably hurt their top runner, Fidelis Osunkwo, who ran 17:30 in 2023 and probably could have qualified for the Federation Meet, but he did not get the chance to run in the team championship race. Instead he won the individual race by 90 seconds.
3. Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy
This is a program that was on the rise as the 2010s ended, winning a borough championship in 2016 and having the league’s top runner in 2019. These are high quality results for a school that has fewer than 400 boys. RKA started the decade solidly with back-to-back 2nd place finishes at Boroughs, but then didn’t field a team in 2023 and 2024. They bounced back nicely in 2025, finishing 4th, but failing to qualify for Cities. Their top runner this decade has been Adam Guzman, who ran 18:14 at VCP in 2022.
2. High School of American Studies at Lehman College
HSAS has fewer than 200 boys in the school, so it’s impressive that they can even attempt to keep pace with Bronx Science. In fact, in the 2010s, they won three Borough Championships. They also don’t have an indoor team, so that makes it incredibly difficult to build a program. They’ve been 2nd or 3rd at every Bronx borough meet this decade and have qualified for the City Championship ever year. They’ve finished 11th twice, 12th twice, and 13th in 2025. Jack McCurry ran 17:00 in 2024 and qualified for the Federation Meet three straight years from 2022-2024.
1. Bronx High School of Science
The Wolverines struggled out of the gate this decade, missing out on qualifying for the Federation meet, finishing 5th in both 2021 and 2022. But with more than 1,500 boys to choose from, it didn’t take them long to find talent. And find talent they did, with Benjamin Berman becoming the fastest boy in PSAL history, running 15:36 at Bowdoin Park in September and returning to finish 2nd at the Federation Meet. Over his career, Berman ran in three Federation meets and only one Borough Championship. In 2025, they won their second consecutive City Championship and were deep enough to do it without Berman, who wasn’t eligible to run.
