Next up are the Brooklyn boys. Three different Brooklyn programs have won City Championships this century, but only one (Brooklyn Tech) can lay claim to three straight titles to start this decade. Three different Brooklyn programs have finished in the top ten this decade. Six different programs have qualified for the City Championship.
The last Brooklyn boys program other than Brooklyn Tech to qualify for the Federation meet was Midwood, who finished 4th in 2017.
Unfortunately for the PSAL, the number of boys teams that have competed at the Brooklyn Borough Championship since 2021 has decreased nearly every year, 10-15-9-8-8. Yes, only 8 of the 22 boys programs in Brooklyn competed in their Borough Championship last year.

The PSAL website lists 22 boys programs on the PSAL’s website. We’ll rank their performance since the Pandemic in reverse order.
17. (TIED)
George Westinghouse High School
Dr. Susan McKinney High School
William Grady High School
Lafayette Educational Complex
Abraham Lincoln High School
Prospect Heights Campus High School
None of these programs have competed in the Brooklyn Borough Championships in the 2020s.
16. South Shore High School
25 years ago, South Shore stood atop the league. They’ve fielded a team at the Brooklyn borough championship just once this decade, with a 12th place finish in 2022. Carson Maxilien ran 21:24 that year for their decade best time.
15. Harry Van Arsdale Educational Campus
Like South Shore, they have only fielded a team at Boroughs just once this decade, with a 10th place finish in 2022. Their top runner that year, Thomas Joliveau, ran 19:21.
14. Transit Tech CTE High School
Transit Tech has fielded a team at Boroughs just twice this decade, beating a total of one team, when they finished 9th of 10 teams in 2021. Their top time of 21:36 was run by Isaiah Coleman in 2021.
13. Paul Robeson High School
Robeson has fielded a team twice at the Brooklyn Borough Championship, finishing a dead-last 15th in 2022 and next-to-last 7th in 2024. Their top runner over these years has been Rafeeq Safo, who ran 24:51 in 2024.
12. Erasmus Hall
E Hall has only fielded a team once during the 2020s, finishing 7th in 2022. Their top runner this decade is Alexander Shearman, who ran 18:56 in 2022.
11. Clara Barton High School
Clara Barton has competed in three Brooklyn championships this decade and returned in 2025 after a two-year hiatus. They have finishes of 6th, 14th (next-to-last), and 8th (last). In 2021, Weerlens Valmont ran 20:43.
10. Benjamin Banneker Academy
They have fielded a team three times at Borough champs, finishing 8th, 11th and 7th from 2021-2023. Brandon Alexandre ran 19:09 in 2022 to set their half-decade mark.
9. Gaynor Campus
Gaynor competed in the first three Brooklyn championships of the decade, finishing 5th, 9th, and 8th, but have been MIA for the past two seasons. Matthew Fennessey ran their fastest time of the 2020s in 2021 with a 19:39.
8. Boys and Girls High School
The boys from Boys and Girls have competed in the last four Brooklyn championships. They’ve shown a bit of an upward trend, with finishes of 13th, 9th, 5th and 7th over that span. Their 2025 schedule even included a non-PSAL meet. Their fastest time of the decade was also run last fall, a 22:18 run by Justin Theodore.
7. Medgar Evers College Prep
Always a competitive track program, Medgar Evers has competed at the Brooklyn XC Championship every year this decade, finishing 6th each of the past three years. Nathan Norman ran a program-best 20:01 in 2025.
6. High School of Telecommunication Arts
This is a program that was on the rise as the 2010s ended, finishing as high as 6th in 2018. They finished 15th and 11th to start this decade, but have not qualified for Cities since their coaching change in 2023. They did not even compete at Boroughs in 2025. Everson Jiang ran their top time of 17:52 in 2021.
5. Thomas Jefferson Campus High School
This program has won track and field City Championships this decade, but hasn’t yet seen that same success in the Fall. They’ve only qualified twice for the City Championship, with their best finish being 13th in 2024. They’ve run in the Brooklyn championship each of the last four years, never finishing lower than 6th. In 2024, Isaiah Noel ran 18:57 to top their leaderboard.
4. Midwood High School
During the 2010s, Midwood was a perennial contender to qualify for the Federation meet and win the City Championship. During that decade they won 1 City Championship and qualified 6 times for the Federation meet. Unfortunately, it seems like they struggled to attract talent to the program since then. Midwood used to be a common landing place for the Prospect Park Youth Runners who didn’t attend Brooklyn Tech. In the 2020s, many of those boys have landed at John Jay Campus instead. This decade the highest of their three finishes in the City Championship has been 10th. They finished 3rd in Brooklyn in 2021, 2022 and 2023, but failed to field a team in 2024. They bounced back with a 4th place finish in 2025 and although they didn’t qualify for Cities, their top runner, Yousef Abdelhakim ran 17:14 at Bowdoin in the Federation Meet.
3. James Madison High School
Madison has made a steady climb in the Borough results since 2021, finishing 7th, 5th, 5th, 4th, 3rd. They’ve qualified for the City Championship twice, finishing 23rd in 2023 and 16th (last) in 2025. Last season Dylan Lugo’s 19:11 was their fastest time of the decade and they had 6 different boys break 20 minutes, by far their most of the past five years. With over 2,100 boys in the school and a fairly diverse population compared to the rest of NYC, this is a program that should continue to see success in the latter part of this decade.
2. John Jay Campus High School
John Jay Campus has finished 2nd to Brooklyn Tech at Boroughs every year this decade. Somehow, they have been able to make themselves the landing spot for any Prospect Park club kids that don’t go to Brooklyn Tech. It’s always easier to build a successful team when you get freshmen that already have years of running experience. This is more common on the girls side, because on the boys side, most freshmen with running experience rarely make an immediate impact on the varsity squad. But most of John Jay’s best runners this decade, Lucas Simpson, Nathaniel Boutin, Gavin Ashe, Henry Bissell, Joseph Manzo, all ran/run for Prospect Park Youth Running Club. So, it’s not surprising at all that they’ve finished in the top ten at Cities 4 times this decade. Boutin is one of only 13 PSAL boys to ever break 16 minutes at Van Cortlandt.
1. Brooklyn Tech High School
3,300+ boys. That’s how many Tech gets to choose from. In 2023, when Brooklyn Tech finished a PSAL-best ever 2nd at the Federation meet, the only team to beat them was Monroe-Woodbury, who has 1,100 boys. Tech has three times as many boys to choose from. Some might argue it’s more surprising when Tech doesn’t win the City Championship. However, James Madison has twice as many boys to choose from as Monroe-Woodbury and hasn’t managed a top 15 finish at Cities. So success isn’t a given, even if it is made a little easier by the size of your school. Tech’s fastest runner of the decade was Elijah Gentry in 2023, running 16:05.
