Bronx Girls

No girls program from the Bronx has ever won the City Championship. Bronx Science came closest in 2022, finishing 2^nd by two points. Four different programs have qualified for the City Championship this decade. Bronx Science’s two closest challengers barely have 300 girls in their school.

None of these programs have competed in the Bronx Borough Championship this decade.

14. Jonas Bronck Academy

JBA first appeared in 2025 at the Bronx Borough Championship, finishing last. They aren’t even listed on the PSAL website. Jimena Cerda-Bermejo was their top runner last season, running 31:23.

13. JFK Campus High School

JFK Campus reappeared at the Bronx Borough Championship in 2024 after more than a 10 year hiatus, finishing 10^th. Their top runner was Dayelin Rumaldo Cabral, who ran 30:41.

12. South Bronx

South Bronx has not competed at the Bronx Borough Championship since 2022. It seems like they no longer have a program. Their top finish was 7^th in 2021. Xylina Herrera has their top time this decade with a 29:51.

11. Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice

Bronx School for LGJ has competed in four of the five Bronx Borough Championships this decade, with a top finish of 10^th in 2022 and 2025. Dahiana Martinez ran 27:15 in 2022.

10. Lehman Campus

Lehman has competed in the past three Bronx Borough Championships. They’ve finished 8^th twice, in 2024 and 2025. There are more than 1,300 girls on the Lehman Campus, making them the next biggest school after Bronx Science in the borough. Freshman Shemoya Brown ran 28:18 in 2025 to establish their top time of the decade.

9. Bathgate Educational Campus

Bathgate has competed in four of the five Bronx Borough Championships this decade. They’ve finished between 8^th and 11^th each time. Janeeva Lanclos ran 27:44 in 2023.

8. Roosevelt Educational Campus

Roosevelt Campus houses more than 1,200 girls, but they have not had more than ten girls on their roster for quite a while.  But they have competed in each of the Bronx Borough Championships this decade, finishing 7^th in 2022, 2023 and 2025. In 2022. Ivani Espinoza has their top time of the decade, running 26:52 in 2022.

7. Taft Educational Campus

The girls from Taft did not appear last Fall at the Bronx Borough Championship, but did place 6^th in the Bronx the three previous years. Lady Beina ran 28:29 in 2022 to set their decade standard.

6. Harry Truman High School

The Truman girls have competed in all five Bronx Borough Championships this decade, with a top finish of 5^th in 2022 and 2023. This spot was a tossup between them and Evander, but Evander has beaten them at Boroughs three times. Adonijah Washington leads the way for Truman this decade with her 25:26 in 2023.

5. Evander Childs High School

Evander Childs have competed in all five Bronx Borough Championships, finishing 5^th three times, in 2021, 2024 and 2025. Last Fall, Salimata Timite ran their best time of the decade, 24:00.

4. DeWitt Clinton High School

A dominant track program, they have not qualified for the City Championship since 2023. Their best finish at Cities this decade was 14^th in 2022. Interestingly enough, they have not qualified for the City Championship since their top runner this decade, Aisha Wajid (20:58), joined the team. But she’s got two sisters that will most likely end up with her at Clinton, so they’ll certainly be back soon. In two years, they’ll have three Wajid sisters, Sky Williams, Makayla McKenzie and whoever else VO2Max can produce, which will put them squarely in contention for a title.

3. High School for American Studies at Lehman College

The girls from HSAS have qualified for the City Championship every year this decade. Those appearances include two last place finishes, but also a 13^th place finish in 2024 and two 15^th place finishes. They’ve also placed in the top three at the Bronx Borough Championship every year. With just over 200 girls in the school, this consistency is quite impressive. Sheyla Zakashansky’s 21:10 at the start of the decade has held up each year to be their top time.

2. Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy

The RKA girls have finished as runner-up to Bronx Science at the Bronx Borough Championship three times this decade. They qualified for the City Championship each of those times, finishing a program-best 7^th place last Fall. Bronx Science has 1,000 more girls than RKA, so it’s a tough hill to climb for RKA, but they’ve got two talented juniors now to build around. Esther Luo ran RKA’s top time in 2022 with a 20:49.  

1. Bronx High School of Science

The Bronx Science girls have dominated the Bronx this decade. It helps that they have way more girls than their two closest rivals. They’ve finished in the top five at the City Championship every year but 2021. In 2022, they came very close to winning the triple crown; They won both indoor and outdoor city championships after losing the XC city championship by two points. They’ve had some very talented runners, their best being Olivia Girand who ran only one season of cross country but broke 20 minutes at VCP and Bowdoin. They probably could’ve been ever better, too, but their top girls have disappeared for years at a time. For example, Charlotte Wang ran 20:29 at Cities as a junior in 2024, but was never seen again. Gretchen Kamm broke 22 minutes as a sophomore and then only ran one race as a junior. There are other examples as well. Maybe it’s just bad luck with injuries, maybe it’s something else.
