The girls scene in Brooklyn is very similar to the boys scene: Brooklyn Tech is dominant. The Tech girls have won two City Championships this decade, and five since 2015. Three other Brooklyn schools also have top-ten finishes this decade. The last Brooklyn school besides Tech to win a city championship was Boys and Girls in 2004. There are 25 programs in Brooklyn, but 11 of them have not competed in a Borough Championship yet this decade.

Erasmus Hall
Nearly 1,000 girls in the school, but E-Hall has only competed in one Borough Championship this decade, finishing 11th in 2022. Brianna Jules was their top runner that year, running 27:36.
Wingate Educational Campus
Wingate only made an appearance in the first Brooklyn Borough Championship of the decade, finishing 11th place which was good enough for last. They fielded a team in 2022, but did not compete at Boroughs. Their fastest girl that year was Jahzara Moore, who ran 33:31.
12. Paul Robeson High School
A powerhouse on the track, the Fall season isn’t Robeson’s strength. However, they have competed in three of the five Brooklyn Borough Championships this decade. Their best finish was 9th in 2021, the only one they didn’t finish last in. Anissa Moore ran 25:31 in 2021 to set their decade standard.
11. Boys and Girls High School
Boys and Girls is the only other Brooklyn girls program to win a City Championship this century, winning two in a span of four years in the early 2000s. Since then, however, this program has fallen on hard times. Fewer than 300 girls attend the school, but they’ve attended the last three Borough Championships, which is a good sign. Their best finish in those three races is 8th, last season. Their top time this decade was run by Tsahya Garraway, who ran 24:59 in 2023.
10. Clara Barton High School
Clara Barton has competed in all five Borough Championships this decade, with a top finish of 7th in 2021, 2023, and 2025. Eniola Philips has their top time this decade, running 25:04 in 2021.
9. Gaynor Campus
Gaynor Campus started the decade strong with a 4th place finish in Brooklyn in 2021. However, they have not competed at Boroughs since 2022. Elizabeth Melican ran 22:42 in 2022 to set their team standard.
8. Benjamin Banneker Academy
Banneker is another program that excels on the track, but struggles in the Fall. They’ve only competed in three of the five Brooklyn Borough Championships, with a top finish of 5th in 2023. Brooke Sheppard was their top runner this decade, running 23:03 in 2023, but she transferred out her senior year. With her, they could have finished 4th in Brooklyn in 2024, perhaps even qualifying for Cities. Unfortunately, it’s something like this that could stymie the development of a program.=
7. Edward R Murrow High School
Murrow has competed each year in the Brooklyn Borough Championship, and had their top finish, 5th, last season after a string of 8th place finishes. However, their top time comes from 2021, when Logan Lane ran 22:53. If you’re a young coach looking to build a program, you could do a lot worse than Murrow. There are over 2,000 girls in the school and there’s an incredibly diverse population to choose from.
6. Medgar Evers College Prep
A power house on the track, MECPS hasn’t qualified for the City Championship yet this decade. Their top Borough finish was 3rd in 2023. Kenese Irish-Bramble and Carrieann Toussaint share their top time of the decade; both ran 24:33 in 2024.
5. Fort Hamilton High School
Another school with a similar population to Murrow is Fort Hamilton. With just under 2,000 girls, Fort Hamilton has the potential to build a strong program. They’ve competed in each of the Brooklyn Borough Championships this decade, with a top finish of 5th in 2021 and 2022. Their top time this decade is 24:23, run by Phoebe Landolf in 2024.
4. Midwood High School
The Hornets have finished 3rd or 4th at every Brooklyn Borough Championship this decade. They’ve qualified for the City Championship three times, with a top finish of 10th in 2022. This is a well-coached program in a school with nearly 2,000 girls to choose from. Their top time so far this decade was a 22:11 run by Maya Kushnick in 2022. But they currently have a good crop of young talent that could easily surpass that time this Fall.
3. James Madison High School
James Madison has finished a runner-up in the last two Brooklyn Borough Championships, and has qualified for the City Championship three times, with a top finish of 9th in 2022. That was also the year they won the City Freshman Championship. However, all of that talent never really developed; they didn’t qualify for Cities in 2023 and finished 14th and 17th in 2024 and 2025, respectively. 1,800 plus girls in the school should always give them plenty of talent to choose from.
2. John Jay Campus
John Jay Campus has qualified for the City Championship every year this decade, with three top-ten finishes. More than any school in Brooklyn (including Tech), John Jay’s success this decade is thanks to a bevy of club kids joining their program. When they finished 5th in 2021, they were led by two PPYRC girls, Simone Isip and Hana Ohashi. Their fastest time this decade is 20:26 by Matilda Quinn (more PPTYC) in 2025. John Jay has finished as runner-up in Brooklyn three times in the 2020s, but neither they nor any other Brooklyn program has been able to unseat Brooklyn Tech.
1. Brooklyn Tech High School
With more than 2,500 girls and a diverse population by NYC standards, it’s no surprise that the Brooklyn Tech girls are the superior program in Brooklyn. With five Borough and two City Championships this decade, they are one of the most consistently successful programs in the entire city. However, as we’ve seen, having a large school doesn’t guarantee success. Yes, they’ve been gifted some talented runners, three Fast Freshmen™ this decade alone. But Tech has been able to develop talent. For example, their top runner this decade, Susana Sharp, did not break 23 minutes as a freshman, but by her senior year she was able to run 19:57.
