The freshmen and sophomores took center stage this week with the running of the Freshmen and Sophomore borough championships.
The Manhattan and Bronx races were held at Van Cortlandt Park.
Bronx Science won the boys freshmen title, followed by American Studies. Yash Dewan of American Studies took the individual title.
American Studies returned the favor in the sophomore race, beating Bronx Science. Declan Olds of American Studies won the individual race.
Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy won the girls freshman race, followed by Bronx Science. Dewitt Clinton’s Aisha Wajid won the individual race in a blazing 9:48. This places her among the top 15 all-time for PSAL freshman girls at VCP.
The Bronx Science girls took the sophomore race, followed by American Studies. Hazel Lyons-Baum of Bronx Science took the individual crown.
Like most years, the HSMSE boys took the freshman title, followed this year by Stuyvesant. Manhattan Center’s Collin Toung won the overall race.
The HSMSE sophomore boys completed the sweep, with Stuyvesant finishing 2nd. Hunter’s Jasper Graham won the individual race.
The Stuyvesant girls took the freshman race, topping LaGuardia. Beacon’s Elka Cafcules (yep, her little sister) won the individual title.
LaGuardia returned the favor in the sophomore race, defeating the Stuyvesant girls. Clinton School’s Melia Murphy ran away with the race.
The Queens races were held at Cunningham Park.
Francis Lewis topped HS for Construction in the boys sophomore race. Maxxluis Rivera from Queens HS of Teaching won the overall race.
HS for Construction won the boys freshman race, as they were the only school to send a full 5-man team. They were led by Denzel Reyes who won the race.
Townsend Harris won the girls freshman race over Bayside, with their top frosh, Naomi Vender-Wilson leading the way with the victory.
Townsend Harris also won the girls sophomore title, this time edging out Benjamin Cardozo. Townsend Harris sophomore Natalia Piszczatowski won the sophomore title.
The Staten Island Championships were held in the dirt outside Ocean Breeze Indoor Track Facility.
MSIT swept the freshman and sophomore races, defeating runner-up Susan Wagner each time. MSIT freshman Isadore Levit and MSIT sophomore Adam Zarrilli won their respective races.
The Susan Wagner super team won the freshman race over Tottenville, led by Malina Rodriguez-King (yes, his little sister).
Tottenville returned the favor in the sophomore race, which was won by Curtis’s Riley Tefft.
The Brooklyn races were held in Prospect Park
In the freshman race, Brooklyn Tech defeated John Jay Campus, led by their top freshman, Wyatt Watson.
In the sophomore race, Brooklyn Tech outran James Madison. The race was won by John Jay Campus sophomore Gavin Ashe.
Paul Robeson won the girls freshman race over James Madison. The race was won by John Jay’s Matilda Quinn.
Brooklyn Tech fielded a full sophomore team to beat Medger Evers. John Jay’s June Blagg won the individual crown.
