With Borough Championships next week, this past weekend was a pretty light week for the PSAL. During the week at different courses across the city, the PSAL held the Borough Championships for freshmen and sophomores.

Section One Coaches Invitational – Bowdoin Park, Wappingers Falls, NY

 

This year’s Section One Coaches Invite returned to Bowdoin Park after a brief hiatus.

 

The boys from HSMSE finished 6th in a field of 19 teams in the Varsity C race. Wren Hansen finished 10th in 17:12. They were 18th in the merge.

 

The girls from HSMSE finished 9th of 18 teams in the Varsity C race, and 22nd in the merge. Phoebe Estep finished 29th in 21:55.

 

RKA ran two boys and two girls. Their top performances were Mason Tejada (65th in 19:26) and Addison Ireland (31st in 22:22)

 

 

NYC XC Carnival – Van Cortlandt Park

 

Four PSAL teams ran in the Boys Varsity B race. Hunter was the top finisher, placing 4th of the 16 teams entered. Jasper Graham finished 2nd overall in 13:36. Metropolitan Campus was 5th, led by Amrit Singh running 14:52 to finish 20th. The boys from HS for Construction were 7th, led by Denzel Reyes running 14:20 to finish 8th. Lab Museum was 8th, led by Marco Arrojo finishing 6th in 13:58.

 

Two PSAL teams ran in the Girls Varsity race. Francis Lewis finished 2nd, led by Daphne Lin who finished 3rd in 17:05. The Stuyvesant girls finished 3rd overall. Eliam Brody was their top finisher, running 17:44 to finish 8th.

 

 

George Calano Invitational - Van Cortlandt Park

 

The Townsend Harris girls won the meet, led by Natalia Piszczatowski, who ran 21:34 to finish 5th and Fiona Loy Chan who ran 21:47 to finish 6th.

 

 

SIHST&FA Varsity/JV Island Champs - Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex

 

Saturday on Staten Island was the annual Championship meet for all Staten Island schools, public and private.

 

In the girls race, the top PSAL runner was Maeve Heck of Tottenville, who finished 2nd. The top PSAL team was Susan Wagner in 2nd. Their top finisher was Melisa Davila in 4th place.

 

The Tottenville girls were 4th overall, CSIHS/McCown 5th, Curtis 6th and MSIT 7th.

 

MSIT won the boys race with a 2-4-8-12-13-14-15 finish. Their top runner, Simon Saffeyeh finished 2nd overall. The Susan Wagner boys were 3rd overall led by freshman Tristan Acevedo’s 5th place finish.

1. Fiorello LaGuardia - OFF

2. Susan Wagner - 2nd on Staten Island. Missing runners from September have reappeared just in time for Championship season.

3. Brooklyn Tech - OFF

4. Bronx Science - OFF

5. Stuyvesant - 3rd at NYC XC Carnival without most of their top runners.

6. Hunter - OFF

7. Beacon - Their freshmen raced at NYC XC Carnival, but not their varsity.

8. RKA - Solid efforts by their only 2 that competed at Bowdoin.

9. Tottenville - 4th on Staten Island. Maeve Heck might be the 3rd best in PSAL this season.

10. Townsend Harris - won another Friday evening meet.

11. Francis Lewis - 2nd at NYC XC Carnival running at full strength

12. HSMSE - Decent showing at Bowdoin, but not sure that’s full strength

13. Columbia Secondary School - OFF

14. WESS - OFF

15. James Madison - OFF

16. Bard - OFF

17. John Jay Campus - OFF

18. The Clinton School - OFF
